Namatay dahil sa atake sa puso ang isang swimming coach habang nasa kalagitnaan ito ng Ironman 70.3 race Linggo ng umaga sa Davao City.
Kinilala ang coach na si Jerry Kasim, isang beteranong coach na humuhubog ng mga age-group swimmers sa kaniyang Jerry Aquatics Swimming Team.
Sa report ng Sunstar Davao, kinumpirma ng kapatid ni Kasim na si Sanita Kasim Soreny ang pagpanaw ng kaniyang kapatid.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of a race participant at IRONMAN 70.3 Davao. The athlete required medical attention during the swim portion of the race and was transported to a nearby hospital where they were treated,” ayon sa statement na inilabas ng organizer. Si Kasim ay empleyado ng Department of Education sa Davao City at kilala sa lugar bilang isang mahusay na swimming coach.
