Bukod sa smuggling at importation, malaking epekto din sa pagkalugi ang African Swine Fever (ASF).
Ayon kay Briones, sa panahon pa lamang in dating Agriculture Secretary William Dar ay may mali na sa sistema na ipinapatupad ang ahensiya.
“Nang tanungin ko, nasaan ang budget natin para bayaran ang baboy na tinamaan ng ASF, para mag-surrender ‘yung mga magbababoy, eh wala. Hanggang ngayon, wala namang ibinabayad sa mga tinatamaan,” ani Briones.
2019 nang unang naitala ang kaso ng ASF sa bansa. Sa kabila ng epekto ng ASF, patuloy pa din ang pagtaas ng presyo ng baboy sa merkado. May ilang lugar na din sa Visayas at Mindanao ang apektado nan g ASF. Tanging ang Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao ang nananatiling ASF-free, base sa data ng Bureau of Animal Industry.
