Iminungkahi ni Senator Sherwin Gatchalian kahapon (Marso 28) na ibalik ang bakasyon ng mga estudyante sa eskwelahan base sa dating school calendar na Abril at Mayo kung kailan mainit ang panahon.
Ito ay matapos isugod sa ospital ang nasa 100 highschool students sa Cabuyao, Laguna dahill sa heat exhaustion matapos sumalang sa isang fire drill sa kanilang paaralan noong nakaraang linggo.
“We need to bring back that (school calendar). There’s a logic to why that was put in place. Two reasons: number one, our elections are always during summer so people will go out to vote because when it’s the rainy season, people will not go out to vote,” wika ng Senate committee on basic education chairman.
Pinaalalahanan din ni Gatchalian ang pamunuan ng mga paaralan na panatilihing ligtas at malusog ang kanilang mga mag-aaral upang maiwasan ang mga kahalintulad na pangyayari.
Bukod dito, binanggit din niya na maraming mga sakit ang maaaring lumitaw dulot ng mataas na temperatura.
“Secondly, summer’s the time students can go out, spend time with their families as opposed to during the rainy season,” ani niya.
Inamin naman ng Senador na maaaring magkaroon ng ilang pagbabago dahil nalipat sa Agosto ang pagbubukas ng klase dulot ng pandemya.
“We have to respond to the pandemic. If you remember there were many lockdowns before and the typhoon season also…but it’s time to bring it back especially now that it’s normal already,” sabi niya.
