Ibinahagi ni Senator Sherwin Gatchalian ang resulta ng survey na nagpapakita na mayorya sa mga Pilipino ay pabor sa pagbabalik ng Reserve Officers’ Training Corps o ROTC sa kolehiyo.
Base sa survey ng Pulse Asia noong Marso 15 hanggang 19 lumitaw na walo sa 10 Pilipino ang sumusuporta sa pagpapatupad ng ROTC.
78% porsyento ng bumoto sa buong bansa ang sumusuporta sa mandatory ROTC sa kolehiyo, 13% ang hindi sumang-ayon, 8% ang neutral at ang iba naman ay walang sapat na impormasyon para magbigay ng opinyon sa isyu.
Base din sa survey na pangunahing dahilan ng pagsuporta sa ROTC ay ang paniniwalang matututo ang mga kabataan ng pagiging responsable at disiplinado.
“Malinaw ang boses ng ating mga kababayan sa pagsuporta sa pagbabalik ng ROTC sa kolehiyo,” saad ni Gatchalian na co-author at co-sponsor ng Senate Bill No. 2034 o ang iminumungkahing Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Act.
Samantala, sinabi ni Sen. Bato dela Rosa nitong Lunes na hangad niyang maipasa ang ROTC bill bilang batas bago matapos ang taon.
Sa kasalukuyan, boluntaryo ang military service sa Pilipinas.
