Tumaas ang kaso ng nakamamatay na sakit na leptospiros sa bansa simula pa January ngayong taon ayon sa Department of Health.
Ayon sa pinakahuling disease surveillance report, sinabi ng DOH na 1,015 kaso ng leptospirosis ang naitala mula Enero 1 hanggang Marso 18.
Ang Western Visayas ay nakapagtala ng pinakamataas na bilang ng mga kaso na may 212 na sinundan naman ng Central Luzon na may 128 at Central Visayas na mayroong 89.
Ayon sa datos mula sa Epidemiology Bureau ng DOH, umabot sa 85 ang pagkamatay na may kaugnayan sa leptospirosis, isang case fatality rate (CFR) na 8.37 porsiyento.
Nakapagtala naman noong nakaraang taon ng fifty na nasawi dahil sa leptospirosis.
Naitala ng Western Visayas ang pinakamataas na bilang ng mga nasawi na umabot sa 18 habang sinundan ng Zamboanga peninsula na may 10 at Davao na may 9.
