Nagbabala ang Federation of Free Farmers o FFF sa posibilidad na magkaroon ng kakulangan ng bigas ang bansa sa darating na Hulyo hanggang Setyembre 2023.
Ayon kay national manager ng FFF Raul Montemayor, tila mauulit umano ang nangyaring krisis sa bigas noong 2018, na posible din magdulot din pagtaas ng presyo.
“If you recall, in 2018, regular rice reached P45 (per kilo) because of the rice crisis. The situation in 2018 is equivalent to the situation now and at the time, the NFA (National Food Authority) still had the authority to import, unlike now,” Montemayor said.
Ayon kay Montemayor, oras na daw para repasuhin ang Republic Act 11203 o Rice Tariffication Law (RTL) kung saan tinanggal ang kapangyarihan ng National Food Administration (NFA) na mag-import ng bigas.
Nagbabala din si Montemayor na sasamantalahin ito ng mga rice hoarders ang sitwasyon kung sakaling magkaroon ng panibagong krisis sa bigas.
Kailangan aniya na kumunsulta ang gobyerno sa mga mga magsasaka dahil milyun-milyong magsasaka ang maapektuhan kung hindi ito matutugunan.
“The problem is the lack of consultation with the farmers. They (government) only talk to themselves,” ani Montemayor.
