Umalma ang ilang grupo at ilang kongresista sa pagsasabatas ng RA 11934 o ang SIM Registration Act dahil sa kakaunting bilang ng taong nag-rehistro ng kanilang mga sim cards.
Binigyang diin ni Maded Batara III, tagapagsalita ng grupong Junk Sim Registration Network, na bukod sa hinihingi ng gobyerno ang lahat ng detalyeng kailangan ay ikinababahala din ng grupo na baka magamit ito ng mga criminal.
“Why do people fall victims to scams in the first place? Is there enough education, is there enough insurance that the Data Privacy Act of 2012, which is supposed to protect our data, actually holds government institutions and private institutions accountable for any leaks with regards to the data that we give them?”, ayon kay Batara.
Pinuna din ni Batara na puntiryahin ang sanhi ng mga phone scams imbes na pagtuunan ng pansin ang mga sim cards.
Umapela din sa Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) ang Davao Oriental 2nd district Rep. Cheeno Almario na mas pahabain pa ang deadline ng pagrerehistro ng mga sim cards ng 120 araw upang mabigyan pa ng pagkakataon ang ilang hindi pa nakakapagpa-rehistro ng kanilang mga sim.
Tinatayang nasa 36.79% o 62,170,268 katao palang sa 168,977,773 na taong sim subscribers ang rehistrado kaya nababahala si Rep. Almario para sa mga taong hindi pa rehistrado kung kaya hinihikayat nito ang DICT na magbaba na ng agarang magbaba ng siguradong huling petsa ng rehistrasyon.
“This will prod stakeholders to properly assess, plan, and come up with more effective strategies to improve SIM registration in the next four months,” aniya Rep. Almario.
Dagdag pa nito, ang layunin ng RA 11934 ay mabigyan ang mga Pilipino ng mas ligtas na ‘online space’. Kung kaya malalaman ng mga tao ang mga benepisyo ng nasabing batas, mas mapapabilis ang lahat ng transaksyon at masisiguro ang kaligtasan ng publiko.
