Naglabas ng pahayag ang Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) patungkol sa pag-extend ng deadline ng SIM Registration.
Ayon sa inilabas na pahayag ng DICT na bagamat natanggap ng kanilang ahensya ang apela ng iba’t ibang public telecommunication entities (PTEs) patungkol sa pagkakaroon ng 120 araw na palugit para sa pagrerehistro ng sim cards subalit hindi inapbrubahan ng ahensya ang kanilang apela.
itinakda sa April 26 ang deadline ng SIM card registration.
“We encourage everyone to register to promote the responsible use of SIMs and provide law enforcement agencies the necessary tools to crack down on perpetrators who use SIMs for their crimes, consistent with the declared policy of the law,” ayon sa DICT.
Nakasaad sa Republic Act No. 11934 o SIM Registration Act na lahat ng hindi rehistradong SIM cards bago sumapit ang Abril 26 ay tuluyang ma-dedeactivate. Layunin din ng nasabing batas na mabawasan ang mga ‘communication-aided crimes’ katulad ng mga text scams at mobile phishing.

Ayon sa binigay na data na naitala noong Abril 17 ng National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), tinatayang nasa 43.47% o 73,033,833 katao palang sa kabuoang bilang na 168,016,400 na taong may SIM cards ang nakakapagpa-rehistro sa buong bansa.
