Tiniyak ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nitong Miyerkules sa publiko na walang nagbabantang kakulangan sa bigas sa bansa.
Ayon sa isang interview, sinabi ng Pangulo na habang ang suplay ng bigas ay maaaring asahan na bumaba sa mga darating na buwan, hindi ito hahantong sa isang krisis.
“There is a chance that the supply will thin. So we are watching and waiting to see what the production levels are going to be after the last planting season before the harvest,” saad ni Marcos.
Idinagdag pa ni Marcos na hindi nito isinasara ang pinto sa posibilidad na mag-import ng mga produkto.
“We may have to import. We’re keeping that option open. But as it stands now, we have enough supply and that we’ll be able to keep the prices stable,” dagdag pa nito.
Sinabi naman ng Department of Agriculture nitong Martes na mananatiling stable ang supply ng bigas.
“We must sustain the demand of our country, which is pegged at 37,000 metric tons a day,” saad ni Assistant Secretary at deputy spokesman Rex Estoperez.
Noong nakaraang linggo, iminungkahi ng National Food Authority na mag-angkat ng 330,000 metric tons ng bigas para mapunan ang inaasahang kakulangan sa buffer stock ng bansa.
