Pag-aaralan pa ng gobyerno ang posibilidad na palawigin ang nalalapit na deadline ng SIM card registration sa April 26.
Sa isang panayam ng ABS-CBN, sinabi ni National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Deputy Commissioner Jon Paolo Salvahan na pinag uusapan pa ng mga ahensya ng gobyerno ang naturang apela upang bigyan ng sapat na oras ang publiko na magparehistro.
“It’s still part of the continuous discussion between the NTC, DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology), as well as the PTEs (Public Telecommunication Entities),” wika ni Salvahan.
Dagdag pa nito, pinag aaralan pa aniya nila ang apela dahil dumarami ang bilang ng mga nagparehistro nitong mga nakaraang araw.
“Starting April 1 hanggang ngayon we have seen a sharp increase in the number of daily registrants. Umaabot tayo uli ng 1 million as we near the deadline,” ani Salvahan.
Kamakailan, umapela sa gobyerno ang mga mobile leaders na Smart Communications Inc., Globe Telecom Inc. at DITO Telecommunity Corporation na ikonsidera nag pagpapalawig ng registration.
Samantala, sinang-ayunan naman ito ni Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual na sinabing maaaring makakapaekto ang malawakang deactivation ng mga unregistered SIM cards sa ekonomiya.
“I think it’s a major concern,”wika ni Pascual. “So that has to be evaluated by the telcos and by the concerned agencies in charge of ICT (infomation and communications technology),” dagdag nito.
