Namatay ang isang sundalo matapos malunod habang isinasagawa ang misyon laban sa New People’s Army noong Huwebes, Abril 20, sa Gattaran, Cagayan.
Kinilala ang sundalo na si Private Raymund Mones, 23, ng Barangay Unzad, Villasis, Pangasinan, Miyembro ng Special Forces Unit of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), ayon sa tagapagsalita ng 5th Infantry Division na si Major Rigor Pamittan.
Ayon kay Pamittan, tinatawid ng biktima ang ilog kasama ang buong unit ng matangay ito ng malakas na agos na naging sanhi ng kanyang pagkalunod.
Ang buong unit, kasama ang biktima ay sa ilalim ng operational control ng Army 5th ID, na naatasang tumulong para magsagawa ng operasyon para sa mga natitirang NPA sa Komiteng Rehiyon ng Cagayan Valley.
Ang bangkay naman ni Mones ay dinala na sa kanyang tahanan sa Villasis.
