Tahasang sinabi ni former PBL Commisioner Chino Trinidad na may problema sa liderato ng basketball sa Pilipinas kung kaya’t pupungas-pungas ang SEA Games roster.
Sa panayam sa Strictly Issues, sinabi ni Trinidad na nagkukulang ang mga liderato kaya nawawala ang national commitment ng mga players na napili upang irepresenta ang bansa.
Naalala pa ni Trinidad dati na gutom ang mga player noon mapili lang na irepresenta ang bansa.
“Kasi nung panahon na nakagisnan ko sa panahon ng 60s, 70s, 80s, alam ko ang mga players natin noon nakikipagpatayan para lang magkaroon ng pagkakataong maisuot yung Pilipinas makita na suot suot nila”.
Dagdag pa ni Trinidad na ang paglalaro sa national team ay isang pribileheyo at isang responsibilidad.
“Ang paglalaro sa national team is a privilege and a responsibility so pag yan naituro natin sa mga bata hindi na tayo magkakaproblema na tatawagin,” ani Trinidad
Sa huli ay sinabi ni Chino Trinidad na hindi sana tayo aabot sa ganitong sitwasyon kung may sapat na pag-iisip at desisyon ang mga liderato para pangunahan ang Philippine basketball. Ang Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) ang governing body ng basketball sa bansa na kasalukuyang piamumunuan ni PLDT Executive Al Panlilio.
