Nasa batas na ang pagpapatawad ng rape victim at pagpapakasal sa nambiktima dito ay sapat para mapawalang-sala ang rape offender.
Ito ay nakasaad sa Article 266-C ng revised penal code, isang batas na nais amyendahan ng isang kongresista.
Naghain ng panukala si Cotabato 3rd District Representative Ma. Alana Samantha Taliño Santos para tanggalin ang nasabing parte ng batas na nagbibigay daan sa pagpapatawad bilang basehan para hindi mahatulan ang isang rapist.
“These forgiveness clauses in our rape laws are regressive and have the inevitable potential of leading to further abuse of the victims,” ayon sa House Bill 8469 na inihain ni Santos.
Sa datos ng Philippine National Police (PNP), may 12,492 reported cases ng physical at sexual violence laban sa mga kababaihan, kasama na ang 1,791 rape cases noong 2021. Umaasa si Santos na ang kaniyang panukalang batas ay magiging daan para mapanatili ang dignidad ng kababaihan.
