Nanawagan ang mga congressmen sa Bicol na ipasa na ang senate version ng isang bill na naglalayon na magtayo ng evacuation centers sa bawat LGU.
Ayon kay Ako Bicol party-list Representative Elizaldy Co, hindi sapat na gawin bilang evacuation centers ang mga school buildings ng bansa.
“The approval of this bill is of paramount importance in safeguarding the lives and well-being of our communities. The traditional practice of utilizing public schools as evacuation centers falls short in providing the necessary facilities to accommodate evacuees effectively. We must prioritize the safety of our people without compromising their education,” ani Co sa isang statement.
Sang-ayon din si Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda na nagsabing ang paglalagay ng evacuation centers ay makatutulong sa kahandaan ng bansa sa pagharap sa mga natural disasters.
Noong Marso ay inaprubahan ng House of Representatives ang HB 7354 na nag-aatas sa Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) na magtayo ng mga evacuation centers.
Kailangan pa ng Senado na aprubahan ang senate version ng nasabing bill bago ito dalhin kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. para pirmahan at maging isang ganap na batas.Sa ngayon ay patuloy ang banta ng Mayon Volcano sa Albay Province at mga kalapit-lugar ng mga ito.
