Ito ang ibinunyag ni Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno, nais din ng pamahalaan na ma-engganyo ang mga tao na piliin na kumain ng mas masusustansiyang pagkain.
“The DOF and the Department of Health (DOH) are jointly pursuing a junk food and sweetened beverage tax as a proactive measure to tackle diabetes, obesity, and non-communicable diseases related to poor diet,” ani Diokno.
Base sa join DOF at Department of Health proposal, papatawan ng P10 per 100 grams o P10 per 100 milliliters tax sa mga pre-packed foods na kinukunsiderang kulang sa nutritional value.
Pagdating naman sa mga sweetened beverages, panukala ng DOF na magpataw ng P12 per liter kahit na anong klase pang sweetener ang ginagamit.”These measures aim to strengthen the effectiveness of the sweetened beverage tax by further discouraging the consumption of such beverages,” Diokno said.
