Herbosa eyes advisory council to solve nurses’ concerns
Isusulong ni Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Dr. Teodoro Herbosa na magkaroon ng National Nursing Advisory Council para matugunan ang issue ng mga Nurses sa bansa.
Sa isang media briefing sinabi ni Herbosa na maglalabas ang kaniyang department ng isang administrative order para buuin ang naturang council na pamumunuan ng de facto chief nursing officer.
“So, we could always make them address all these issues not only the exam, but also life-work balance, and other reasons to motivate them to stay and fight the brain drain of Filipino nurses to other countries,” ani Herbosa.
Kabilang naman sa magiging miyembro ng pinaplanong council ay nurses buhat sa private at public sectors kasama na ang head ng Philippine Nurses Association (PNA), Philippine Board of Nursing at ang Association of Nursing Services Administrators of the Philippines.
Sa kasalukuyan ay kapos ng gobyerno ng 4,500 nurses sa mahigit 70 government hospitals nationwide.
Kamakailan ay inilahad ni Herbosa ang kaniyang ninanais na mabigyan ng temporary license ang mga nursing graduates na nakakkuha ng 70-74% score sa Nursing board exams.
Ngunit ayon sa Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) walang probisyon sa Philippine Nursing Act o Republic Act 9173 na nagbibigay ng temporary license sa mga nursing graduates na hindi pumasa sa licensure examination.Ngunit sa Medical Act of 1959, nakasaad ang isang probisyon na maaring magbigay ang isang Secretary of Health ng temporary licenses sa mga medical graduates na hindi pa kumukuha ng physician licensure exam. Maari lamang ito sa panahon ng pandemya o national emergencies.
