Ito ang ipinahayag ni Department of Agriculture (DA) Senior Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian.
Ayon kay Sebastian, ang masaganang ani mula Enero hanggang Hunyo sa pagtatanim ng palay ay magdudulot ng magandang epekto sa porsyento ng produksyon. Ito ay inaasahan na aangat hanggang anim na porsyentong dagdag sa magiging ani.
Kabilang sa mga dahilan ng magandang output ay dahil sa magandang pangangasiwa sa Masagana Rice Industry Program (MRIP) ng DA.
“We expect the price movement to stabilize,” pahayag ni Sebastian. “This is based on PhilRice PRISM data of 8.153 MMT palay production in 2022 to 8.605 MMT palay or 5.6 MMT milled rice in 2023,” dagdag pa niya.
Aniya, mayroon din carry-over stock na 1.8 million metric tons ng giniling na bigas na mas nadagdagan pa dahil sa pagdating ng 1.8 million metric tons na import ng bigas.
“By the end of June, the stock available will be good for more than two months, in additional to the incoming supply from the new harvest and import arrivals in the coming months,” ani ni Sebastian. Nitong unang linggo ng buwan, si President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na kasalukuyang DA chief ay diretsang tiningnan ang pagiging epektibo ng ihahain na proposal. Ipinakita rin niya ang kanyang positibong pananaw na kakayanin ng bansa na maabot ang 100 porsyento ng self-sufficiency sa pagiging aktibo ng Pilipinas sa agrikultura.
