Pinag-aaralan pa ng gobyerno ang posibleng maging epekto sa bansa, partikular na ang national security, pagdating ng issue sa mga Afghanistan nationals na pansamatalang manirahan sa Pilipinas.

Ayon kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. wala pang pinal na desisyon ang gobyerno ukol sa requet ng Estados Unidos na gawing temporary shelter ang Pilipinas ng mga Afghan refugees.

“I was really surprised when I saw some of the news reports saying there’s a deal between the US and the Philippines. We are still looking exactly at how to make it work if we can. We will find a way to make it happen,” ani Marcos.

Iginiit din ni Marcos na masusi din ang kanilang pag-aaral sa national security.

“So, there are many security issues. Of course, we have to be conscious of that. But there are even more difficult legal and logistical issues. Because if the plan, as it runs exactly as it is planned, eh ‘di maganda, wala tayong problema (that’s good. There will be no problem),” dagdag ni Marcos.

October 2022 nang i-request ng US na gawin ang Pilipinas bilang processing site ng mga Afghans na dating naging kaalyado ng mga Amerikano sa giyera sa kanilang bansa.

Napasailalim sa Taliban ang Afghanistan noong August 2021, dahilan para mag-pullout ang US forces at mapwersa naman ang ilang Afghans na lumisan sa bansa.

Plano ng US government na kupkupin ang mga Afghan nationals na tinutugis ng Taliban government.“This is something different. This is something we have not encountered before. They are Afghans who are being resettled primarily in the United States and we are going to be the third country. That is the proposal of the United States. We will continue to study. Let’s see if there is a way we can do it without endangering the security of the Philippines,” ani Marcos.
