Pormal nang inanunsiyo ng PAGASA ang simula ng El Niño phenomenon sa Pilipinas.
Ang El Niño ay ang abnormal na pag-init ng sea surface temperature sa central at eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean at ang pagkakaroon ng mababang amount ng ulan.
Noong Mayo ay nagbabala ang PAGASA ng 80% chance na magkaroon ng El Niño sa susunod na tatlong buwan.
Posible umano itong tumagal hanggang sa unang quarter ng susunod na taon. Kaya naman nagplano si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. na pagbuo ng team para tumutok sa solusyon para mabawasan ang negatibong epekto ng El Niño phenomenon.
