Naghain ng panukalang batas si Davao City Rep. Polo Duterte na nagnanais rendahan ang mga online lending companies.
Ang House Bill 6681 ay naglalayon na protektahan ang mga financial borrowers mula sa panghihiya at minsan ay tila extortion sa pagpatong ng interes sa utang mula sa mga online lending groups.
“More victims have continued to come out to report being harassed, shamed, threatened and forced to pay usurious interest charges. Both the Executive and Congress need to act fast to put an end to these inhumane debt collection practices,” ani Duterte sa isang statement.
Tinuran ni Duterte ang isang online petition na pinangunahan ng Philippine Association of Loan Shark Victims Inc. (PALSVI) na nananawagan sa gobyerno na isara ang lampas 100 online lending applications (OLAs).
Ito’y dahil sa mga paraan nito ng pananakot at pagbabanta na ginagawa na nagdudulot ng pangamba sa mga financial borrowers.
“Our laws need to catch up with technology, which while providing ease and convenience to consumers, have also given rise to abusive practices that have ruined not only the reputations, but also the lives of their victims,” dagdag ni Duterte.
Kamakailan ay nagsampa na ang mga PALSVI members ng reklamo sa Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group laban sa ilang mga online lending companies.Kinilala din ni Duterte ang ginagawang aksyon ng Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) na agad na nagka-kansela ng kanilang registrations bukod pa sa pagtiyak na mahahatulan ang mga ito sa hukuman.
