Pinag-iingat ang publiko sa paglaganap ng water at vector-borne diseases sa buong Pilipinas sa paglaganap ng El Niño.
Ito ang babala ni Philippine College of Physicians president Dr. Rontegene Solante na nagsabi na ang mga tropical countries katulad ng Pilipinas ay madaling magkaroon ng kaso ng water-borne diseases.
“Pwede pa madagdagan ‘to, tagtuyo, El Niño, nakukuha yan sa contaminated water,” ani Solante.
Kabilang sa mga sinasabing common diseases sa mga ganitong panahon ay typhoid fever na dulot ng salmonella bacterial; shigellosis na ang mga palatandaan ay belly pain, fever, at watery o bloody diarrhea na dulot naman ng shigella bacteria.
Ang pag-inom naman ng contaminated water ay nagdudulot ng abdominal pains, fever, diarrhea, hepatitis A, amoebiasis at cholera.
“Kung bumibili naman ng mga pagkain sa labas, kelangan siguruhin na ‘yung nagluluto at pagluto ay malinis (If you’re buying prepared meals, make sure that the food is cooked and handled in a clean manner),” ani Solante.Ang mga vector-borne diseases o mga sakit na dala ng mga lamok tulad ng malaria at dengue ay kumakalat din sa panahon ng El Niño.
