Advocacy in Action: Distribution of Donated Rice to 131 Garbage Collectors

December 10, 2025 – In the spirit of giving, the NGO-IpaBITAGmo Inc., in collaboration with the Bitag Multimedia Network (BMN) distributes donated rice to the Garbage Collectors of Quezon City.

131 Garbage Collectors benefitted from the rice distribution donated by Digama Waste Management, with each one receiving 25kg of rice — a big help for their families this Christmas.

The Fight Continues
In 2024, the Garbage Collector of I-SWIMS in Quezon City brought their plight to BITAG. They were only receiving P150 for six hours of work and they also lacked proper personal protective equipment like helmets, gloves, and boots while collecting garbage  — a major threat to their safety and health. Their case is the best example of labor exploitation and injustice.

This case of the I-SWIMS garbage collectors in Quezon City, who approached BITAG in 2024, stands as a clear example of labor exploitation and injustice. These workers called “Paleros” were subjected to extremely low pay, receiving only P150 for a six-hour shift. In addition, they lack essential personal protective equipment, such as helmets, gloves, and boots, which poses a significant threat to their safety and health while performing their garbage collection duties.

The complaint against Quezon City’s garbage contractor I-SWIMs was also brought by BITAG to the Senate. Although the complaint’s still pending at the Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources chaired by Jinggoy Estrada; and initially dismissed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Ben BITAG and his Bitag Multimedia Network (BMN) did not stop their efforts to help.

Compassion in Action
“Christmas is about Giving!” stated by Ben ‘BITAG’ Tulfo, who personally served as a Volunteer in the Christmas reaching out activities and maintains a strong advocacy for helping the oppressed.

The 25kg rice donation, facilitated by the NGO-ipaBITAGmo and BITAG Multimedia Network, serves as a Christmas activity reaching out to previous beneficiaries and offering them renewed hope this holiday season.

The  NGO-IpaBITAGmo Inc. and Bitag Multimedia Network continues its mission to assist various sectors. Aside from the Garbage Collectors, the Indigenous Peoples, as well as the Children from the orphanages and home for the aged are scheduled to receive gifts in the coming days, proving that the true spirit of Christmas is very much alive through helping others.
