During the most anticipated presscon of the week, in a slip of a tongue, Joel Sanvicente, father of the driver of the white SUV involved in the Mandaluyong hit and run incident, mentioned something about officers of Highway Patrol Group visiting him last June 6.
Due to his revelation it opens more speculations on how the authorities handled and investigated the incident.
The big question of “what was the participation of police officers of Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in the incident?” was the topic of veteran broadcast journalist, Ben Tulfo during his news analysis program, BITAG Live.
“Nadulas ho, slip of the tongue ang nangyari kahapon sa presscon, kung hindi pa manggagaling doon sa bibig nung tatay, nabanggit nung tatay… June 6 nandun pala yung Highway Patrol Group sa bahay nila,” Tulfo said.
“Never na-mention ang Highway Patrol Group simula ng nasagasaan ang biktima” Tulfo added.
Interviewed by Ben Tulfo, Plt. Col. Jacinto Arzadon, HPG spokesman, confirmed that police officers of HPG were able to talk to Joel Sanvicente and his wife on June 6.
“Ang nangyari po kasi nauna po doon ang Mandaluyong police at very early perhaps maaga masyado then comes after our investigation team, at 8 o’clock in the morning nakiusap naman dun sa gwardya na kung pwedeng maakusap sila, lumabas naman ang mag-asawa dun sa labas ng guard house at doon nakausap ng mga investigator” Plt. Col. Arzadon explained to BITAG.
HPG also provided BITAG, copies of photos showing the questioning done by their team last June 6.
According to Arzadon, the parents also admitted that their son owns the white SUV with plate number NCO 3781 involved in the incident.
“Admitted naman sila, inamin naman na yung kanyang anak talaga ang nagmamaneho at siya rin ang registered owner, hindi naman dineny ng tatay”
“On the process of questioning sinabi ng tatay niya wala yung anak niya nasa abugado niya and on the process of settling the victim for amicable settlement”
Ben Tulfo noted that the case is not an ordinary traffic accident and that the principle of hot pursuit should be enforced at that time.
Tulfo also recalled that on June 6, Mandaluyong PNP were denied entry inside the subdivision.
“Did you pick up the pieces from where Mandaluyong police left off na para sabihin dahil Highway Patrol po kayo, were in coordination with Mandaluyong police station as regard to the case?” Tulfo asked during the program.
Arizadon on the other hand said they were in coordination with Mandaluyong all along.
Tulfo explained that during the height of the issue, HPG was never mentioned in the incident. He added that everybody was clueless that HPG had the chance to meet eye to eye with the parents (father) of the driver.
Ben Tulfo still stands and believes that the principle of ‘hot pursuit’ should and could have been enforced during the 24-hour period.
After 10 long days of being incognito, the suspect in the viral video and controversial Mandaluyong Hit and Run has revealed himself through a press conference in Camp Crame in Quezon City on Wednesday.
The suspect, Jose Antonio Sanvicente, 34-years old was accompanied not just by his lawyer but also by his parents.
Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. was also present during the said press-conference.
When asked to comment on the incident, Sanvicente offered his apologies to security guard Christian Floralde.
“Apologies for the incident, apologies to Mr. Floralde and his family,” the young Sanvicente said.
The said presscon immediately became the headline of most news platforms, while it has been ten days since the incident, many are still displeased on how law enforcement authorities handled the case, Tulfo quipped.
