“Ay ‘yung gobyerno lahat pala pinaglilingkuran…” This is how the prodigious Mayor Joy Belmonte of Quezon City translated the warm reception of her constituents.
Belmonte highlighted the city’s achievements and programs that advanced QCitizens’ lives in her fourth State of the City Address (SOCA) on Monday, Nov. 7.
Belmonte underscored that the city government collected over P22 billion in taxes from 2020-2021, the highest amount of tax collected in the history of Quezon City.
The city mayor emphasized that they collected record-breaking tax gathering despite difficulties and the adverse effect of the global pandemic due to Covid-19.
“I would like to add napakahirap nitong ginawa namin kasi nawalan kami actually ng 10,000 business noong panahon ng pandemya and yet despite the loss of 10,000 business tumaas pa yung tax collection natin,” Belmonte told BITAG Multimedia Network (BMN).
Belmonte said this could be a positive result of their continuing adherence to good management in the government and the transparency program.
“Nakita rin po ng ating mga negosyante na yung pondo o yung kino-collect nating buwis ay napupunta sa tama kasi nitong panahon ng pandemya doon naramdaman na may pamahalaan na kumakalinga sa mga tao,” she added.
The P22.9 billion tax collection by the local government led to the attribution of the city as the top performer in terms of local revenue generation in 2021.
“Maraming mga negosyante na nakatira sa middle class na communities nakatanggap din ng ayuda at doon nila nakita ‘ay yung gobyerno lahat pala pinaglilingkuran’ kaya maraming willing magbayad ng buwis at ng tamang buwis,” Belmonte noted.
The QC government envisioned continuing good governance, adding to implementing clean and honest spending of every peso for the benefit of the people.
“Sa lahat ng mamamayan ng Lungsod ng Quezon, ang pondo ng bayan ay maayos po nating pinangangasiwaan at mararamdaman po ninyo ang pondong ito sa pamamagitan ng iba’t-ibang serbisyo na ating binabalik sa taumbayan sa iba’t ibang sektor, lahat po ng sektor ay mabibiyayaan,” Belmonte affirmed.
