The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) started on Thursday, Dec. 15, implementing the heightened alert “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2022” for a safe, peaceful, and obedient trip for Holiday travelers this Christmas season.
PCG Commandant Admiral Artemio Abu said 25,000-strong coast guard personnel deployed to respective seaports and vital exit/entry points to ensure peace and security during the celebration of the Christmas festivities.
Abu also reminded ship owners to ensure that all sea vessels are in good condition before sending their crew onboard.
Ship captains, fishermen, and crews are also reminded to follow sea travel regulations to ensure comfortable, safe, and convenient transport service to the riding public.
In Southern Tagalog, Abu said all PCG personnel are working hard to ensure the welfare and safety of travelers, especially in crowded ports.
According to Abu, PCG-K9 teams have already deployed to inspect baggage and cargo aboard vessels.
PCG is also making sure that there are enough life jackets at stake for passengers before dispatching sea vessels for sailing.
Abu said the heightened alert status will continue until January 7, next year.
Under heightened alert status, the PCG will be working with other government agencies to ensure safety and security in all ports, harbors, and appropriate areas for the expected heavy influx of passengers.
