Iimbestigahan na ng Kongreso ang mga trader at hoarder ng sibuyas at bawang na nasa likod ng artipisyal na kakulangan ng suplay at sadyang pagtaas ng presyo sa merkado.
Ito ang babala ni House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez kahapon. Kasong economic sabotage ang isasampa laban sa mga nasa likod ng hoarding.
““This is economic sabotage… “We received information that these people are hoarding onion, and more recently even garlic, to create an artificial scarcity in supply and induce price increases,” ayon kay Romualdez.
Dahil dito, inatasan na ni Romualdez ang House Committee on Agriculture and Food na magsagawa ng imbestigasyon at irekomenda ang pagsasampa ng mga kasong kriminal base sa makakalap na ebidensya.
Samantala, gusto ni Romualdez na magkaroon ng daily monitoring ng presyo ng sibuyas at bawang na ibinibenta sa mga pamilihan.
“People are still trying to recover from the pandemic. The last thing we need is an unreasonable rise in food prices,” pahayag ng speaker.
Sinabi rin ng mambabatas na dapat magtulong-tulong ang lahat ng concerned agencies sa pagsawata sa pagpapapuslit ng sibuyas at iba pang mga agricultural product upang hindi makaapekto sa mga lokal na magsasaka.
“It is very important to ensure that any importation should consist of such quantity and be done well ahead of the harvest season to avoid any adverse effect on the livelihood of our local farmers,” saad ni Romuladez.
