Nangangamba ngayon ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Batangas sa 300 square meters lawak ng oil spill dulot ng lumubog na tugboat sa Barangay Subukin San Juan, Batangas.
Ayon sa LGU ng Batangas, posibleng makaapekto sa kabuhayan ng mga mangingisda ang nangyaring insidente gayundin sa turismo at marine ecosystem kung saan naroon ang mga fish nurseries.
Nagsagawa kahapon ng vessel inspection at shoreline assessment ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at Marine Environmental Protection Group-Batangas upang malaman ang naging epekto ng pagtagas ng langis sa karagatan.
Kasalukuyan din nagsasagawa ang PCG kasama ang mga miyembro ng M/TUG Strong Bravery ng manual oil spill recovery gamit ang sorbent pads at empty drums.
Base sa ulat, hinampas ng malaking alon ang tugboat na M/TUG Strong Bravery noong Miyerkules habang nakadaong sa dalampasigan na naging dahilan umano ng paglubog nito. Lulan ng tugboat ang mahigit 5,000 litro ng sari-saring langis.
