Isa sa mga hakbang na tinututukan ngayon ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) ang pagkakaroon ng digital food stamps na gagamitin ng mga mahihirap na Pilipino upang mabili ang kanilang mga pangunahing pangangailangan.
Ang digital food stamp ay ang magiging kapalit sa binibigay na mga relief goods o food packs program ng ahensya.
Ayon kay DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, isa ang usapin na ito na isinangguni niya kay UN Resident Coordinator to the Philippines Gustavo Gonzales nang bumisita ito sa kaniyang tanggapan. Layunin ng programa na labanan ang kahirapan at kagutuman sa bansa at palakasin ang disaster resilience ng bansa.
Sinabi naman Gonzalez na handa ang UN na magbigay ng kinakailangang teknikal na tulong, gayundin ang iba pang resources na kailangan para ilunsad ang panukala ng DSWD chief. Pinuri rin ni Gonzales ang kalihim sa iminungkahi nitong mekanismo upang wakasan ang kagutuman sa bansa.
Nangako naman si Gatchalian na gagawa sila ng draft para sa Team to End Hunger ng DSWD na binubuo ng mga social worker.
