Pinaplano ng Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang paglulunsad ng isang disaster preparedness training center upang mas paigtingin ang kapasidad ng isang rescuer sa pagresponde sa oras na kalamidad o sakuna.
Ayon kay MMDA Acting Chairman Don Artes, naudyok ang kanilang tanggapan na simulan ang nasabing training center matapos nilang makita ang kakulangan sa pagsasanay ng mga responders sa naganap na lindol sa Abra noong 2022.
“The agency saw the need to build a center that will focus on disaster response to empower rescuers and provide those affected by disasters with immediate assistance,” ani Artes.
Itatayo ang nasabing training center sa isang ektaryang bakanteng lupain sa Carmona Sanitary Landfill sa Cavite City.
Ito ay magkakaroon ng rappelling tower, isang confined space structure, isang wrecked building with structure rubble pile, at isang pancake collapsed structure.
Plano itong ilunsad ng MMDA bago matapos ang taon kung saan una itong bubuksan para sa 17 Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices sa Metro Manila bago palawigin sa iba’t-ibang bahagi ng bansa.
“We will provide them with two-week trainor’s training using our existing equipment, such as life locators and vibrascopes, among others, so we can produce more rescuers that can extend immediate disaster response assistance to nearby areas should an earthquake occur,” saad ng MMDA.
Ayon kay Artes, ito ay bahagi ng kanilang paghahanda sa magnitude 7.2 na lindol na binansagang “The Big One” na maaaring magdulot ng malaking pinsala sa buong Kamaynilaan.
Tinatayang aabot sa 35,000 ang maaaring masawi dito habang nasa 120,000 naman ang nakikitang masasaktan. Bukod dito, humigit kumulang 2.5 trilyong piso halaga ang magiging pinsala nito sa ekonomiya.
