Kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng World Water Day, nagbabala ang United Nation sa napipintong global water crisis.
Ayon sa ulat, nasa pagitan ng dalawa at tatlong bilyong tao sa buong mundo ang nakakaranas ngayon ng kakulangan sa tubig at patuloy pa itong lalala sa mga darating pang mga taon.
Tumataas aniya ang global consumption ng tubig ng 1% kada taon sa loob ng apat na dekada at patuloy aniya itong tataas hanggang sa taong 2050.
Posibleng din umano maging endemic ang global water crisis dahil sa epekto ng climate change, lumalaking populasyon, polusyon at labis na pagkonsumo at pagsasayang ng tubig.
Sinabi naman ni Richard Connor, Editor-in-Chief ng UN World Water Development Report, Nasa $600 bilyon hanggang $1 trilyon kada taon ang tinatayang gagastusin upang matugunan ang krisis sa tubig.
Isa din sa nakikitang solusyon ang palakasin ang international cooperation ng mga bansa pagdating tamang pagkonsumo ng tubig.
