“There exists not a single reason to move away from the exclusion regime for Russian and Belarusian athletes set by the IOC [International Olympic Committee] more than a year ago,” saad ng Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia sa isang statement co-signed ng Ukraine.
Ang joint stance ay inilathala ng mga foreign ministries sa bisperas ng pulong ng executive board ng IOC sa Lausanne simula Martes, kung saan tatalakayin ang isyu ng mga Russian athletes.
“We strongly believe that now is not the time to consider the opening up of a pathway for Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to the Olympic Games in any status,” saad sa isang statement.
Dahil sa nalalapit na Paris Olympics na gaganapin sa 2024, sinabi ng International Olympic Committee (IOC) noong Enero na nais nitong ipagpatuloy ang pagbabawal nito “on flag, anthem, colors or any other identifications” mula sa dalawang bansa.
Gayunpaman, binatikos ng pinakamatitibay na kaalyado ng Ukraine ang IOC para sa mga pagsisikap na dalhin ang mga Russians at Belarusian sa mga internasyonal na kumpetisyon, kung saan ang Estonia ay nagpapahiwatig ng posibleng boycott sa 2024 Summer Games sa Paris sakaling payagan ang mga Russians na lumahok.
