Ipinag-utos ng Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) na magbakasyon muna ang 11 matataas na opisyal ng Philippine National Police (PNP) na umano’y sangkot sa anti-Illegal drug operation na ikinasa noong October 2022 sa Tondo, Maynila.
Ayon kay Interior Sec. Benhur Abalos, pinaghahain niya ng leave of absence ang isang heneral at siyam na iba pang opisyal ng PNP upang hindi sila masuspindi kaugnay sa umano’y cover-up sa pagkakaaresto ng isang pulis na nahulihan ng 990 kilo ng shabu na aabot sa ₱6.7 bilyong illegal drugs.
Aniya, ang mga pulis ay nahagip sa video footage bago pa ang sinasabing pag-aresto kay Police Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo, Jr. matapos mahulihan ng ₱6.7 bilyong illegal drugs.
Kabilang sa pinagli-leave sina Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo, director ng Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG); Col. Julian Olonan, chief ng PDEG-Special Operations Unit sa Region 4A; Lt. Col. Arnulfo Ibañez, officer-in-charge ng PDEG-SOU sa Metro Manila; at Lt. Col. Harry Lorenzo III, nakatalaga sa Manila Police District, Moriones Station.
Kasama rin sa pinaghahain ng leave sina Maj. Michael Angelo Salmingo, deputy chief ng PDEG-SOU sa Metro Manila; Capt. Jonathan Sosongco, head ng arresting team ng SOU-4A; Capt. Randolph Piñon, chief intelligence section ng PDEG SOU 4A; Lt. Glen Gonzales, nakatalaga sa Quezon City Police District; at Police Lt. Asgrap Amerol, intelligence officer ng PDEG.
Isa din sa isinasangkot si Lt. Gen. Benjamin Santos, na nagretiro na sa serbisyo nitong nakaraang buwan.
Iniutos din na mag-leave sa trabaho sina Master Sgt. Lorenzo Catarata, Senior Master Sgt. Jerrywhin Rebosora, Staff Sgt. Arnold Tibay at isang Patrolman Gular.
Paliwanag ni Abalos, kapag hindi sumunod ang mga nasabing pulis sa kanyang kautusan, sususpindihin na nila ang mga ito.
“All those in the video should take a leave of absence pending the investigation of the task force which I created to look into this. If not, we will be constrained to issue appropriate orders for their preventive suspension pending investigation,” pagdidiin ni Abalos.
