Inanunsyo ni Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla na extended ng 90 araw ang deadline ng SIM card registration sa bansa.
Sa ilalim ng SIM Card Registration Act, inoobliga ang publiko na may cellphone at gumagamit ng sim cards na magparehistro upang epektibong labanan ang spam at scam messages.
Ang orihinal na deadline para sa mandatory SIM registration ay bukas, April 26, 2023.
Gayunpaman, dahil sa ulat ng mga pangunahing telcos sa bansa ang mababang pagpasok sa pagpaparehistro, umapela ang public telecommunication entities (PETs) at iba pang stakeholders na palawigin ang SIM card registration.
Pangunahing dahilan aniya ang kakulangan ng mga requirements tulad ng valid ID at digital literacy.
Base sa datos ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) na inilabas kahapon, 82,845,397 subscribers o 49.31% ng 168 milyong subscriber sa buong bansa ang nakapagparehistro na ng kanilang SIM cards..
