Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday advocated agricultural and fishery productivity, improving logistics systems, and changing people’s lifestyles as key and vital steps to attain nutrition security.
“We must, first of all, boost productivity in agriculture and fisheries, including climate-resilient technologies, and promote production even in non-agricultural areas such as urban and vertical farming, and community gardening for subsistence supply,” Marcos said during his opening remarks for the panel discussion on ‘Moving Towards Nutrition Security
Marcos also recommended developing technologies that increase the nutritional value of our food and content and prolong their shelf life
“We must invest in facilities, logistics, and systems that bring nutritious food to our people, much like a grander scale of farm-to-table, and increase the capacity of our institutions to enforce regulations that enhance food quality,” the President said.
The President, however, mentioned that the Philippines based on the 2021 Global Food Security Index ranked 64th out of 113 countries in four dimensions of food security adding that a lot of effort must be done to attain Sustainable Development Goal 2 on Zero Hunger.
“Underscoring all these lofty goals is ensuring that each and every one is provided with quality and ample nutrition,” President Marcos said.
President Marcos arrived in Davos, Switzerland last January 15 to attend the 2023 World Economic Forum (WEF). Apart from food security, issues of energy, upskilling, and digitalization are part of the discussed topics by the government.
