American Basketball player, Justin Brownlee is now a step closer to playing for Gilas Pilipinas as the House Committee on Justice on Wednesday, Nov. 16, approved the measure granting him a naturalized Filipino citizenship.
Author of the House Bill 825, Rep. Mikee Romero of 1-PACMAN party-list said Brownlee could aid the Philippine Basketball Team in its pursuit of first world basketball championship in the upcoming 2023 FIBA games.
The lawmaker proceeded to underscore Brownlee’s biggest achievements in Philippine basketball noting the latter won 5 PBA championships and 2 best import awards since 2016.
“Mr. Brownlee has brought an enormous pride and joy to all Filipino basketball fans through his hard work in the PBA,” said Rep. Romero.
“He has consistently become one of the favorite imports in Philippine Basketball.”
Rep. Romero also bared that Brownlee has volunteered himself to be a naturalized player of the country.
“That differentiates him from the rest because he volunteered himself,” the lawmaker said.
“That means a lot to us Filipinos,” he added.
The Philippines will host the sixth window game of 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifiers wherein Gilas Pilipinas is hoping to include Brownlee in the team as they battle against Lebanon and Jordan in February next year.
