President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. claimed on Thursday, Dec. 1, that he is getting closer to fulfilling his promise of bringing down the price of rice to P20 per kilo through the Department of Agriculture (DA)’s Kadiwa ng Pasko program.
Marcos led the opening of another Kadiwa ng Pasko Caravan in Quezon City, noting that the caravan is selling P25 per kilo of rice – P5 short of his promise of P20 per kilogram of rice during his presidential campaign.
“Palapit na tayo sa presyo na aking pinapangarap. Now we’re able to sell it for P25,” the President said.
“Kaya’t gagawin natin ito national program na dahil ubos agad lahat ‘yan,” he added.
Among the participating sellers in Thursday’s caravan come from the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the National Food Authority (NFA).
Under the Kadiwa ng Pasko caravan program, it aims to promote and market the agri-fishery products of local farmers and fishers to help increase their income.
With the initiative of the Office of the President (OP), the caravan was formally launched on Nov. 16, 2022, where the President expressed commitment to open more outlets in different localities across the country.
Apart from offering lower prices of commodities, the caravan also helped the local farmers earn more through a direct farm-to-consumer food supply chain.
